My Language Journey So Far
So my language journey has not been smooth and I can attest to the fact that I still only speak one language fluently in my 30 years of living. It’s always been eating away at me that I’ve never been able to fully communicate in Portuguese with my grandma but I know I will be able to.
Now I did have some language immersion while growing up. I was of course forced to take French classes throughout elementary and high school in Canada. I didn't retain anything and never came close to actually speaking the language, but besides French, I did grow up with Portuguese in my youth due to my grandparents and father. I even went to Portuguese school on Saturdays, but sadly I kind of blew off those lessons being a child and all. I would say that it has helped in my current learning of Portuguese (helps make it easier since it’s somewhere in my head).
Choosing linguistics in university
